James Bain - Commissioner
Commissioner James Bain has been involved with indoor football since 2006. Most recently, Bain served as Assistant General Manager of the Wichita Wild from 2008-2011. While with the Wild, Bain lead the franchise's ticketing, media and public relations, and sponsor serviced operations. Bain also attracted sponsors by having sponsorship sales responsibilities.
Prior to joining the Wild, James served as Director of Media and Public Relations for the Sioux Falls (SD) Storm during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. In Sioux Falls, Bain focused on streamlining all communications with media and fans. Bain helped the Storm increase its website traffic from a little over 2,000 visits per week to over 5,000 visits per week. Bain also had numerous operational duties and sales responsibilities with the Storm. James interned for the Storm during the 2006 season. The Storm won the United Indoor Football Championship in each of Bain's three seasons with the team.
The Volga, SD native attended Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) where he served as Sports Director (2002-2003) and General Manager (2003-2004) of the campus radio station. Bain interned at KNBN-TV in Rapid City, SD during the summer of 2001 and interned at KMOX-AM in St. Louis, MO during the summer of 2003. He graduated from SMSU in May of 2004 with a degree in Speech Communication.
Bain is currently in law school at the University of Kansas. In his free time he enjoys swimming and playing fantasy football.
Steve Heiman - Supervisor of Officials
The Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) Board of Directors has hired Steve Heiman as the league's first Supervisor of Officials. In making the decision, the board stressed accountability, professionalism, and continued training as points of emphasis for the coming year. Heiman will immediately begin assembling officiating crews and organizing training meetings for CPIFL officials.
Heiman has been an official in arena/indoor football since 2000. From 2000-2004, Heiman officiated games in arenafootball2. During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, Heiman officiated in the American Professional Football League and for the past four years he has officiated in the Indoor Football League including officiating in two United Bowl championship games.
Heiman has also officiated football at the college level for numerous years. Since 2005, he has been on official in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.During that time, he has officiated in the NCAA Division II playoffs four times and twice officiated in the Division II national semifinals. In 2011, Heiman was the Zebra of the Year award recipient.
From 1999-2004, Heiman officiated in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and officiated in the NAIA playoffs for three years including one national semifinal game. Heiman has also officiated in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and officiated two national championship games and two Region 6 championship games at the junior college level.
